2021 Dr. Rosemary Morrow Supervisor of the Year Award

Chassidy Olainu-Alade is the Coordinator for Community and Civic Engagement in Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD)​. As a former Social Studies Coordinator she led in the creation and implementation of FB-1, the locally adopted standard to address local history within the Fort Bend ISD social studies curriculum.  She delivers keynotes speeches and professional learning sessions across the nation to bring awareness to the discovery of the "Sugar Land 95"; who are the remains of 95 African Americans who were discovered in 2018 at the construction site of a new school.  In the spring of 2020, as part her advocacy for the inclusion of ethnic studies into social studies programs, she worked with Texas State Board of Education representatives to propose and get approved the amendment to include convict leasing and the discovery of the Sugar Land 95 into state standards for the newly adopted African American Studies course.

Nichelle Pinkney, K-12 Social Studies Program Coordinator at Klein ISD was the recipient of the DIG Grant.  The winning of this grant will be providing a voluntary culturally responsive master series for secondary social studies teachers. Klein ISD will be introducing the C.A.R.E Master Series in Fall of 2021.
