Ann Rogers Scholarship

Katie Peterson, 2019 Recipient of Ann Rogers Scholarship
"Dear Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association,
I wanted to start off by expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association for selecting me to be the recipient of the Ann Rogers Scholarship. This scholarship will be an immense help in pursuing my dream of becoming a social studies educator. Not only is this gracious scholarship supporting me financially during my student teaching semester, but the connections and resources that I will find in the Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association will also help me improve. Due to this scholarship, I am able to focus solely on practicing teaching and improving my skills to become an effective social studies educator. My ultimate goal is to impact my future students and be an amazing social studies educator and advocate. Currently, I am teaching 11th grade U.S. History at Cy-Fair High School and I am loving every minute of it. The best part about it is being able to show the connections of social studies to the students everyday lives and making a positive impact on my students. I also have loved showing my students how skills, such as research and writing, will help them beyond high school. In the six weeks that I have been working there, I have seen faces light up when they understand a difficult concept and I have witnessed the joys, and sometimes hardships, of being a teacher. I graciously accept this scholarship and again, want to thank the Texas Social Studies Supervisors Association for not only helping me in my dream of becoming an effective social studies educator, but also for allocating resources towards making social studies education as a whole better. This organizations work is amazing and should be celebrated."

Sincerely,
Katie Peterson
